The Brief
Safeguarding overhaul of our client an Independent School. The Independent School identified failures in its safeguarding provisions, particularly in addressing a series of low-level concerns (LLC) related to a teacher. The new management sought a comprehensive review of all concerns, an assessment of the school culture, and identification of areas for development.
The Solution
Collaboration: We worked closely with statutory agencies, ensuring a thorough examination of the concerns. Following the police’s conclusion of no involvement, an internal investigation was initiated to delve deeper into the LLCs.
Internal Investigation: Our team conducted a meticulous internal investigation, revealing not only shortcomings in handling concerns but broader cultural issues within the school.
Disciplinary Action: As a result of our investigation, two senior staff members faced disciplinary action. This step aimed at holding individuals accountable and fostering a culture of responsibility.
Collaboration with Stakeholders: Throughout the process, we engaged with Union representatives and trade bodies, fostering open communication and ensuring that the perspectives of all stakeholders were considered in the decision-making process.
The Outcome
The school emerged from this challenge with enhanced safeguarding measures and a more robust organisational culture. Pupils’ safety remains a top priority, and the school not only complies with statutory guidelines but operates beyond them, reflecting a commitment to excellence in safeguarding.
Conclusion
This case study highlights the significance of a collaborative approach involving Union representatives and trade bodies. The Independent School’s commitment to continuous improvement, transparent internal investigations, and swift disciplinary actions has resulted in a safer environment for students and a more effective educational institution.
